Deco – Deceast Mix Series #002

Posted on Nov 21, 2010 by Deco in Downtempo, Hip-Hop, Mixes.

I’ve drawn on my musical influences for this edition of the Deceast Mix Series and pulled together an hour’s worth of hip-hop, downtempo, instrumentals, and additional odds & ends. There’s plenty of classic songs and deep cuts from the 1990s with a good bit of newly released music that I’m really into. The vibe is soulful and deep as usual, so download a copy, kick back and enjoy!

Tipper – Broken Soul Jamboree

Posted on Oct 18, 2010 by Deco in Downtempo.

It’s been a long wait but it appears that Tipper is finally on the cusp of releasing his latest album! Titled “Broken Soul Jamboree”, this is likely the long-rumored downtempo album Tipper has been working on for the past 2+ years. While all of his recent albums have featured a few tracks that capture his unique downtempo vibe, it’s been since 2003′s Surrounded that he’s devoted an entire full length to the sound. He posted an extended 36 minute preview of the entire album on his SoundCloud account yesterday, you can check it out via the embedded player below.

The full album comes out on November 15th. I’m not sure what the distribution situation is for his label Tipper Music, but I’m sure it will be available via all fine digital and physical music retailers.

Dominick Martin – Shine A Light

Posted on Dec 10, 2009 by Deco in Downtempo.

Dominick Martin - Shine A Light

The ever-talented Calibre returns with his latest full-length album under his given name Dominick Martin. “Shine A Light” sees him completely forego Drum & Bass and the other dance music genres he’s dabbled in over the years in favor of a sound that’s warm, rich, and organic. His vocals feature prominently on several tracks with full choruses and verses – an expansion of his earlier vocal work that was better characterized by ethereal utterances awash in delay and reverb. I’ve had this album on constant rotation since purchasing it and have to say I think this one of the best releases of 2009. Highly recommended.

Lusine – A Certain Distance

Lusine - A Certain Distance

The immensely talented Lusine (real name Jeff McIlwain) is back with his latest full-length album for Ghostly International titled “A Certain Distance“. Eschewing his well-known glitch/IDM aesthetic for more pop leanings, the album is full of lush sounds and delicate rhythms along with just the right amount of vocal treatments. In addition to finding out all the places you can purchase the album, you can also preview the entire thing over at the Ghostly website.

A Certain Distance is great music but I have to say that my favorite album from Lusine is still 2004′s “Serial Hodgepodge“, also released on Ghostly International. “Auto Pilot” has stood the test of time and is still one of my favorite compositions from the last several years.

Deco – The Temple of Boom Podcast #36

Posted on Oct 1, 2009 by Deco in Downtempo, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Mixes.

My second and final installment for the Temple of Boom Podcast series, this mix was recorded in July 2008 and features a little dubstep, some of my favorite deep Drum & Bass of the year, and a couple of left field tracks thrown in for good measure. It’s a shame this podcast is no longer going, it was a great outlet for my interest in broadcasting and also allowed me to expand my DJ range beyond Drum & Bass. Originally recorded with voiceovers, I’ve also included an instrumental version without any voiceovers should you want to skip my commentary. Enjoy!
