Feb 5th: Deceast at SMOG Sundays
Members of the Deceast family will be touching down at SMOG this Sunday February 5th to bring Los Angeles our own unique take on contemporary bass music. Along for the ride are new label signing Mesck, longtime Deceast support Trouble, original Deceast alumni Atlantic Connection, and myself. We’ve all been quite busy in our respective studios over the last few months and have tons of new and unreleased music to share with everybody that comes out on Sunday.
Best of all? It’s only $5 at the door as long as you RSVP with SMOG before hand! You can sign up for the RSVP list using the form below:

Feb 1st: Deco at Funktion Wednesdays

I’ll be playing my first gig of 2012 on February 1st as the Shogun Audio tour featuring Friction, Icicle and Armanni Reign stops in Los Angeles at Funktion Wednesdays. I’m pretty excited about this show as I have a lot of new music to play, both from myself and other Deceast artists. I’m also really looking forward to hearing what Friction and Icicle bring to the night as it’s been a while since either of them have performed in LA. Icicle has been putting out some of his best work lately and I’m still enjoying listening to his album “Under The Ice”. Friction has curated Shogun Audio with an attention to detail seldom seen in bass music and we’re guaranteed to hear all sorts of forthcoming Shogun material during this tour stop.

Photos: Rusko at Funktion Wednesdays
Bassrush kicked off the return of Funktion Wednesdays last week with a sold-out Rusko show at The Music Box and plenty of photographers were on-hand to document the premier. Highlight photos and links to the galleries are below.

An unfortunate side note is that it looks like this could be the last show at The Music Box for a while. As reported by LAist and LA Weekly, the Los Angeles music community was caught off guard by the surprise closing of the venue last week, leaving Funktion Wednesdays without a venue. No alternate venue has been announced yet, although I’ve heard that Bassrush will actually be splitting the upcoming Wednesday events between Avalon and Dim Mak Studios until a new, permanent location can be secured.
The Return of Funktion Wednesdays

The weekly drum & bass event presented by Bassrush is back in 2012 with a new location, an expanded format and the same quality control as the original club night that went on hiatus back in 2008. The Music Box in Hollywood is the new home of Funktion and the venue features all kinds of nice touches such as a massive sound system, a rooftop bar / lounge and capacity for up to 1500 attendees. While the original weekly event focused only on drum & bass, this latest incarnation of Funktion will incorporate all types of bass music while maintaining the night’s drum & bass roots.
It all kicks off on January 4th, 2012 and the first month’s lineup is nothing short of ridiculous. Longtime drum & bass champions like DJ Hype and Dieselboy will be gracing the decks alongside members of the new generation of bass music artists such as Rusko and Downlink.
UPDATE 1/4: Tonight’s Funktion featuring Rusko is sold out — there may be a few tickets available for purchase at the door, early arrival is highly suggested.
UPDATE 1/7: LAist, LA Weekly and others report that The Music Box, the venue where Funktion Wednesdays is being held, has closed. I’m not sure what this means for the future of the event but once I have more information I’ll share it here.
Update 1/10: As reported by LAist and LA Weekly, the Los Angeles music community was caught off guard by the surprise closing of the venue last week, leaving Funktion Wednesdays without a venue. No alternate venue has been announced yet, although I’ve heard that Bassrush will actually be splitting the upcoming Wednesday events between Avalon and Dim Mak Studios until a new, permanent location can be secured.
